What this site is

Independent writing about deception — perceptual, machine-made and deliberate. It is not affiliated with any book, author, publisher or band. The domain previously carried a promotional page for a music book, went out of service, and now carries this.

Publisher

Published by SARL Le Silex, a French limited company with share capital of €2,000, registered under number 921 816 666.

The tools

The illusions are drawn to the measurements stated, and each carries a proof you can trigger. They are demonstrations of ordinary perception, not a diagnostic of anything. If a figure behaves oddly for you in a way the proof does not resolve, that is worth mentioning to an optometrist rather than to us.

The metadata inspector reads the file in your browser and never uploads it. It reports whether camera data or a C2PA manifest is present; it does not verify a signature and it does not judge whether an image is authentic. Nothing can do the latter reliably, including tools that claim to.

The guidance on spotting machine-made media reflects the state of things at the time of writing and will date. Treat it as a starting point, not a test.

Historical cases

The case file summarises documented, widely reported episodes. Dates and attributions are given in good faith; several of these cases have disputed details, and the identity of the Piltdown forger has never been established.

Trade marks

Book titles, band names and publisher names remain the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and commentary only.

Data

This is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and collects no browsing data. The shelf filter and the interview kit run entirely in your browser.

If you write to us, your address and message are kept only as long as needed to answer, then deleted. Under the GDPR you may request access, correction or erasure: hello@fooltheworldbook.com.
